Why does Truckee need a dog park?

Truckee IS a dog park.  We live here for a reason and want to enjoy being outdoors with our dog.  Our town offers amazing opportunities to recreate outside with your dog.  However, every dog doesn’t have good recall, whether due to breed tendencies, recent adoption, etc.  Some people aren’t able to take their dog on an all-day adventure every day, due to work schedule, disability, injury, or illness.  Every single one of these dogs still needs the opportunity to get exercise and socialize.  A dog park will provide an additional resource to our community.  By all means, still play with your pup anywhere and everywhere (we do)!

There are so many beautiful places here.  I don’t want to spend time in a city-like dog park.

Neither do we!  The dog park we are working towards will be in keeping with our natural aesthetic and as wild as possible.  We will be maintaining a natural landscape and utilizing indigenous and drought resistant plants.

I like being able to have my dog off leash.  I don’t want a dog park to change how I spend time with my dog.

The only location in Truckee where there is a strict leash law is at Truckee Regional Park between the months of May and October. There is an At Large Prohibited ordinance in Truckee, which means that you must have both immediate voice and visual control over your dog (http://www.townoftruckee.com/departments/animal-services/faq-s).

This is too expensive.  I don’t want my tax dollars funding a dog park.

We are a grass roots movement and construction of the dog park will be funded through excited community members working together.

How exciting! How do I keep up with what is happening?

We are excited that you are excited!  Up to date information on project planning, site location, and fundraising will be provided both on this website and also on our Facebook page (Truckee Dog Park).
